LOD (Link of the Day):「きょうの日本昔話」【日本語】(Today’s Folklore)

This is the start of a new series I decided to post. Since starting my Japanese self studies I have come across many sites in learning on your own or supplements. I’ve saved quite a few. Some I still use some I don’t but all in all somebody out there who is also lost in their Japanese self study might want to know what else they can use to further their understandings. Anyway the first Link of the Day is きょうの日本昔話」

Starting with the first picture below this is a screenshot of the site (along with my tabs of Arashi videos and Jdramas lol). Basically this site is filled with Japanese folklore with audio.

You can go in order of the days but for me I never did. I tried for the first week but realized it was too restricted for me. I tend to dislike restricting myself when it comes to learning this language (there’s no point).

Not all the stories have a voice actor telling you the story but most of them do. They have the audio player right underneath the title of the story and picture. With that you can press play and also read along with the written work.

Although when I first found this site my kanji reading was very low. I had and still have the plugin for Chrome “Rikaikun” which reads the kanji I mouse over but I barely used it when listening and reading along with the story. I tried my best to follow the audio to improve my reading skills. I don’t use this site too much but when I’m in the mood to read but not struggle too much with wondering what the pronunciation is for the kanji I go to this site. I have tweeted this site before but realized it would be best to actually make a post about it. It’s a pretty good site for improving reading skills, doing 多読 contests (‘Tadoku’ = Extensive reading. Reading without worrying too about comprehension) and improving listening skills. I recommend this site for all levels.
